Service for Cedar City
2/1/2017 Cedar City, Utah

My name is Tyler Robinson I'm a college student studying at SUU to be an engineer. Today I am reporting on a service project that I did for one of my required programs here at SUU. My service project was painting the sidewalk curbs red so that they could be more visible to the people around the city of Cedar City. The reason why I did this for my service project was because of the condition the painted areas were in. Some places were in such bad condition that you could hardly tell that it was a no parking zone. I thought that something had to be done about this problem. So, I made some phone calls to the people in charge of maintenance for the roads and was able to get permission to repaint the curbs red.

After I received permission to do this I meet with the city workers and obtained all the supplies that I would need to do this service project for them. I then proceeded to enlist my local religious leader to help me get a group of people to help me with this service project, after all many hands make light work. With the help of these people I was then able to organize everyone and direct them to different spots around town that needed to be worked on. The service for this project was split up into multiple days so that the work load could be more easily spread out. Also, with the way it was split up I could get people to help me on different days of the week.

As mentioned before all of this was done for one of my classes. The class that I did this for is known as the EDGE project at SUU. The EDGE project is split into different categories to encourage the students on campus to be engaged with the college or the community. I chose the leadership option for this class. With this choice I was then guided on how I could be a better and with this service project I feel like I was able to become a better leader. I learned from this program that communication is one of the most important key factors in becoming a leader.###
